Join us as a Guest - We love having people sing with us as guests! As a guest you will have access to a Guest Book of chorus sheet music while at rehearsals, and have limited access to some of our digital sheet music and learning tracks. With approval by the Director and President, you may also be able to join us in some concerts and singouts.
Join us as a Member - To get the most out of your chorus experience, we would really like you to consider joining us as a member. As a member, you’ll enjoy these benefits:
Full access to the member section of our website, including music and learning tracks, old and new.
A binder with sheet music of chorus rep songs.
Chorus shirts for sing-outs – long sleeve red and short sleeve shirt for summer.
You’ll be able to sing with us in competitions hosted by the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS).
Becoming a member of ODC and BHS includes the following steps:
Audition by singing a song in a quartet (see The ODC Audition Process)
When you’re ready to take the next step forward with us, please talk to the Director, your section leader, or one of the chorus board members to help you get started with the audition process.
Audition Process - We use an audition to encourage your development as a singer in an acapella chorus, and to assess your abilities. The audition is not meant to be scary or intimidating. Remember that you are among supportive friends who want to encourage you! When you are ready to take the next step forward with us, please talk to the director, your section leader, or one of the chorus board members to help you get started with the audition process. We will provide you with sheet music and learning tracks for the audition song so you can learn your part and practice singing along with the tracks without sheet music. When you have learned your part, practice singing with three other guys singing the other three parts. We can help you find three guys who already know the piece and can help and coach you along the way. We’ll help you before rehearsal, during rehearsal breaks, after rehearsal, or even outside of rehearsal times if you like – whatever you need!
Our audition song is “It’s Only a Paper Moon”.
For your audition, you’ll be expected to have your part memorized, and be able to sing it in a quartet with three other guys singing the other parts. The goal is to demonstrate that you are able to learn music reasonably quickly, and to carry your part independently in a group with the other parts. Ideally, we would like to complete the audition process in three or four weeks, start to finish. (Sometimes your schedule – or ours – may require a little longer.)
Here are the steps in the process:
Sing in a quartet for the Director and the music team. Receive feedback and coaching.
Practice the suggestions you receive – on your own and also with three other guys singing the other parts.
Audition for the Director and the music team.
It is a simple process - and we are here to help you!
